2006 NAQT Division I State Champs

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the GHHS Academic Team meets in room 146 for a real meeting of the minds. These students and their two team coaches engage in rigorous mental training that would give Albert Einstein a sizeable headache. These folks are amazing. Buzzing in with the answers to questions ranging from medieval history to classical music to French literature, the members of the Academic Team are constantly striving for mental excellence. The culmination of all this work is participation in area competitions. After going 0-5 in the state championship matches since 1990, the 2006 GHHS Academic Team came through and won the 2006 NAQT Division I State Championship. The team defeated state powerhouse North Olmsted twice, crushing defending state champion Fireston and trouncing Mentor in the state finals. Senior Jim Hrdlicka was the state's Most Valuable Player, winning the overall scoring title.
