The BAND

When game time arrives, the booming sounds of the drum cadence begin working their way from the band room towards  and across the field. When this happens, we all know the band is on the march, ready for pregame to begin.  This is what they do: march with heads held high, play their hearts out, and enjoy the camaraderie of being involved in one of Garfield Heights High School’s biggest activities.  For members of the band, performances on Friday nights is just part of the bigger picture.  This picture starts to come into clear view in early August when band camp begins.  These demanding practices teach the newcomers how to march, “cover-down”, play without the luxury of sheet music, and work in cooperation with the auxiliaries. Working together, these acquired skills are not only used Friday nights, but also at other performances such as the occasional Saturday night band show and  local community events.
